Josh Grant Cracks Top Ten At Phoenix!

Round 2 of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross series at Phoenix produced some of the closest racing the sport has seen for a long time, and UNIT sponsored Josh Grant bettered his round one result by cracking the top 10, a position he’s happy with but also one he aims to improve on in the coming rounds.

Grant looked more comfortable on his YZ450F at Phoenix and it showed in his speed on the track, a sign he is starting to really dial in his JGR Yamaha under race conditions and steadily build his momentum as the series unfolds.

After a solid seventh place in his heat race Grant started strong in the main inside the top ten on a track that was hard to pass on, while up front rookie to the 450SX class Justin Barcia took off from the field and never looked back. Behind Barcia one hell of an intense scrap went down for the remaining podium spots between Anaheim winner Davi Millaps, Chad Reed, Trey Canard and Ryan Villopoto, with Villopoto, after falling once, forced his way through to second by the last lap after Canard slid out under pressure. This opened the door for Millsaps to take third and keep the championship points lead.

Josh Grant's season is going to plan, and that is to improve every round and be there at the end, nice ride JG33! Photo: Swanberg.

Grant chased Andrew Short, Ryan Dungey, James Stewart and Jake Weimer, all within 10-seconds of each other, to the line to finish 10th, while UNIT rider Kyle Chisholm, who transferred straight to the main from a strong ride in the heat race, produced another solid performance to finish 13th.

In the 250SX class UNIT rider Austin Politelli once again showed great speed in his heat race and main, but needs a break with his starts for a shot at running towards the front of the field. It’s only a matter of time before Politelli gets that break and shows he can run with the top five. At Phoenix he managed to battle his way through to 13th after getting caught up in the first turn. UNIT rider Scott Champion just missed the transfer cut in his heat race, and then failed to capitalise on the final two spots in the LCQ and missed out on the main event.

UNIT rider Nick Paluzzi had a night he’d rather forget after crashing out of his heat race. Paluzzi was carted off for precautionary reasons and later diagnosed with a fracture to his C7 vertebrae. He was released from hospital with no complications, and we are yet to find out how long he will be off the bike. Get well soon Nick!
