Jam-packed start to 2011 for Schuie

Hello everyone,

It has been an eventfull, interesting and challenging to say the least start to the year. Like most people and businesses in Queensland, it has been a challenge to return to normality since the floods disaster.

Our house suffered minor damage compared to most others, but it is an ongoing task trying to get it fixed up and bloody stressful too. It has also taken a long time for the ground to dry up enough so i could move machines around and fix up my tracks, jumps and courses.

I finished it all off this week and now the place looks tip top again and ready for use, just in time for some new pictures to be taken for my new segment in Freerider MX Magazine. Instead of my column, which has been a part of the mag since 2006, I will now be doing the Ride Like A Pro segment which covers a double page spread every issue with pictures and step-by-step guides into how to perform some of the more difficult tricks and aspects of our sport.

The big topic at the moment, and what has the whole moto industry abuzz, and what has been attraction a lot of media coverage, is the offroad riding park facility we are working on.

Just to clear a up some misconceptions, it is not my own park like a lot of people are thinking, I am just a part of it. Motorcycling Queensland are the tender of the facility, and because this is such a large operation we have formed a partnership between businesses.

Ray Buchanan (Australian Dirt Bike Adventures), Steve Sommerfeld (Invert Management) and myself (Motosolutions) are working with MQ to construct this new facility. We worked feverishly through March to acheive our goal of holding a test ride day at the property open to the public, so we could perform sound tests around the property and sensitive areas nearby under actual riding conditions. The day was a great success and we recieved great feed back from those that attended. Attached is the release about the day.

After my successfull trip to deep south NZ were I picked up second place at the Farm Jam (check the video)  I returned home and headed for Gatton, were I performed at a fund raiser for the flood relief in the area. I also had a show at Cooyar, alongside a round of the Australian rodeo championships - it was something else to see i tell ya!!! I then hit the MX track and trails at the ride park test day to mix with the riders there and to get their feedback on the place so far.

Steve Sommerfeld and I are holding a coaching clinic in Perth WA, it was scheduled for April but the track builder suffered some servere injuries and we have now pushed the date back to June/July. Doing this has now opened up an oportunity for me to plan a trip I have wanted to do for years. We are going to road-trip from Boonah to Perth, arriving for the coaching day. (Depending on dates and confirmations, maybe stopping in at the Finke Desert race along the way) Then travel north from Perth to a new sand dune system that has been found, then down south to Esperance to ride the dunes there.

Iwill also be stopping in at sponsors, riding spots and Aussie sights along the way.I am in talks with Unit now about filming the entire trip and flying in camera guys for the big ride sessions at the dunes. My TV episode is pretty jam packed as it is, so this trip very well might end up being its own episode.. It is only early in the planning stages so I will keep you updated as it progresses.

Thanks
